The recently named Dr. Teresa Bixby, chemistry professor and university assessment coordinator at ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app, to a three-year term on its Steering Committee, which provides definition and direction to the goals of The Project.

Also, Dr. Craig Teague of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa was named to the committee. Both educators will begin their terms at the 2024 POGIL National Meeting in June.

The POGIL Project is a national not-for-profit organization that disseminates its unique student-centered pedagogy at the secondary and college levels, along with providing professional development opportunities for instructors.

“The POGIL Project has been a transformative community in my personal and professional life for the past 11 years. I am excited to help support, strengthen, and expand our community as we launch the third strategic plan,” said Bixby, who has chaired The POGIL Project’s Learning Communities Project for several years, along with serving as a facilitator at several Project workshops.

Bixby earned her B.S. in Chemistry and Physics from Susquehanna University in 2003 and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2009.

In 2012, she began a tenure-track position at ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app’s Chemistry Department, following a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. In her time at ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app, Bixby shifted from experimental physical chemistry research to chemical education research.

Bixby has also deepened her engagement with university assessment over the years. In 2024, she will transition to an administrative position in the Provost’s Office for academic effectiveness.

In addition, to having been a member of the ELIPSS Project primary collaboration team, Bixby currently directs research for an NSF S-STEM grant, Project Synergy, and is co-principal investigator on an NSF Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship grant.
