¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Upper Iowa Sunday; Pearl Wins 500th Game

The ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app softball recorded its second straight sweep of the weekend as the Flyers defeated Upper Iowa in both games Sunday (April 21). The Flyers won the first game 8-1 then won the second 1-0.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app started the scoring early as the Flyers put up three runs in the opening frame for an early 3-0 lead.  (Tolono, IL/Unity) started the scoring with a sacrifice fly which scored  (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) to make it 1-0.

A few batters later,  (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) made it 3-0 after she hit a two-run single to left field which scored  (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) and  (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School). Upper Iowa got one run back in the bottom of the second inning to make it 3-1 in favor of ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app.

The Flyers added three more runs in the top of the third inning to give them a 6-1 lead. Calderon ripped a two-run triple to center field which scored Graham and  (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) to make it 5-1. 

 (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) was able to reach on an Upper Iowa error which scored Calderon giving ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app a 6-1 advantage. ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 8-1 in the frame. 

Calderon recorded another RBI as the senior was hit by the pitch which scored Hoffman to make it 7-1. Wuske hit a flyout which scored Powell to make it 8-1 in favor of ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app.

Garden (15-6) picked up the complete game victory after going all seven innings, allowing three hits, giving up one run (unearned) and striking out five.

With the win, Head Coach  now has 500 collegiate wins in her coaching career.

GAME 2 SUMMARY
¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app scored the lone run of the game in the first inning. Garden started the game with a double, Hoffman singled then Powell scored Garden with an RBI ground out to make it 1-0. 
 
 (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (14-2) threw a complete game shutout as the sophomore threw all seven innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three.
